Word Wall

This week you can bring any item in that you would like and we will talk about the letter that it starts with.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

We will be playing with flubber and clay this week. We might even make some clean mud. We will only be creating art that can be taken home the day it’s made. We will also be having a “toy wash”. We will fill the sensory table up with Water and the children can help clean our toys. It’s amazing how much they love to help do this. We will also be having Ice Cream Sundaes for snack this week to celebrate the year together. If it’s nice we will do this on the Church’s front lawn.

A note from the teacher

Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the gift cards, Marissa & I were both amazed and surprised! It was very thoughtful for you to all go together. We were truly blown away by it, thank you again!

Picnics
The End of the Year Picnics are this Thursday & Friday June 11th & 12th at 9:30- 11:30 for the morning class and 12:30 – 2:30 for the afternoon classes. It is held at Felida Park in Hazel Dell, I will email a MapQuest link for directions.

Class Books
We seem to be missing some book bag books, so if you have any hiding in your house it would be great if you could bring them back by this week.

A note from the teacher

It’s Playground Clean Up Day!! This Saturday May 30th from 9:00 to 11:00, you can help clean up our playground. If you haven’t put in your hour worth of volunteer work or even if you have it’s a great way to help your school community.

The End of the Year Picnic will be the last two days of school, June 11th & 12th at 9:30- 11:30 for the morning class and 12:30 – 2:30 for the afternoon classes. It is held at Felida Park in Hazel Dell. (Maps to come) There is a sign-up for both days, so if you come on both days we ask that you sign up for both days. Ideally it would be great if you could bring enough for everyone in our class plus an adult. If there happens to be two people signed up for an item you would only need to bring half that.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

This week we will be exploring the outdoors and summertime fun. We will have a tent set up in by our “beach” in our classroom. I went to the beach this weekend and found some seaweed that I will be bringing in as well as beach sand for our sensory table. We are going to the Park on Thursday and Friday. We will take our snack over so we can have a picnic. We will be making an outdoor collage over there to bring back and we will have a story time over there in the grass under a big tree.

Word Wall

The letter Ss continues this week, it’s been a lot of fun this week with talk about the Ocean. Sea, Shells, Starfish, Sand, Sun, and we also had other great words that begin with the letter Ss.

A note from the teacher

A big thank you to Leo’s Grandmother, Barbara for coming in and teaching the children the monster song. The children loved it!!

We are in need of your recycled goods for Summer Camp. We want to create some recycled art and a city out of recycled items. So anything you think we might want, we do!

Coming to a playground near you….. It’s Playground Clean Up Day!! So mark your calendars for Saturday May 30th and come and help clean up our playground. If you haven’t put in your hour worth of volunteer work or even if you have it’s a great way to help your school community. On a side note my family helped with the downtown clean up this weekend and honestly I didn’t really want to go but I thought it was a good way to show my daughter that we should be involved in our community. Once we got there and got going, it was a terrific experience. We meet new people and made the down town area look amazing. So even if you are feeling hesitant about making the effort, just do it! You’ll feel great about your efforts.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

Beach Party, the children can wear their beach wear to school and we will have sno-cones on Thursday and Friday! If they wear their swimming suits we ask that they either wear other clothes over them or bring extra clothes. We will be creating some more ocean creatures and our own aquariums this week.

Word Wall

So I don’t think we have featured the letter Ss yet but even if we have we want to do it again…. So for the next two weeks, the letter Ss.

I wanted to give you a heads up on the all school picnic. It is on Thursday & Friday of the last week of school and is held at Felida Park in Hazel Dell. I will have a sign up sheet posted of items that we need. It is a lot of fun to all be together (the school & their families) on the last days of school.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

This week we are talking about the ocean and its beaches. We will actually be discovering the ocean for two weeks. At the end of next week we will have a Beach Party, where the children can wear their beach wear to school and we will have sno-cones. We will be creating some ocean creatures and talking about ways to travel to the beach, along with what we do at the beach once we get there!

Our letter will be the letter Bb again this week. B was a big hit this week!! We read a book that Sam & Abby lent us and we discovered all kinds of words that begin with Bb. The children have been getting very excited about finding words that start with our letter of the week. Great job in helping them out.

A note from the teacher

I want to thank Judith Freeman (Juliana’s Grandmother) for coming into our class on Wednesday and talking with us about Lilies. She kindly donated Lilies to our class for everyone to plant. Thank you so much for coming in and sharing your talents with us!

I also want to thank Cal-Portland for giving my husband Darrell the opportunity to bring his truck down and talking with the school about what it does. The children had a great time checking themselves out in the shiny wheelsJ.

I love the sense of community that our school shares. We have so many talented families that are willing to share with us. Thank you all!!

This Week in the Sunshine Class

We have caterpillars and they have climbed up & formed chrysalis. We will be watching their transformation this week and hope we can see butterflies flying around before weeks end. We will be combining all the butterfly excitement with the Mom’s Tea extravaganza. We will be reading The Hungry Caterpillar and Are you my mother?. We will finish up our table decorations and Mom’s treats as well as do some butterfly art.

A note from the teacher

Thank you!!
The Sunshine Class families ROCK!!!! Thank you so much for all that you do to make our school wonderful! Thank you to Jesse Weyrauch, Ava in the afternoon class’s Dad, for coming in and talking with us further about fire safety. Please speak with your children about what to do in case of an emergency and check the batteries in your fire alarms. If for some reason you don’t have a fire alarm, you can visit the fire station in your district and they will help you get one.

I also wanted to say thank you for being so understanding about my request to keep our classroom a little less crowded in the mornings during drop off time. It has made a big difference for the children that can be overwhelmed by all the people. So again thank you .

Warmer Weather
Bikes are out so remember to send your child’s helmet. With warmer weather I know that sandals are an easy option but we play in the rocks and sand a lot so if your child has a hard time walking in them it may be safer if they wear tennis shoes.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

We will be working on those special projects. (Yes, we are still working on them.) We are still talking about planting and spring time activities. There is just so much to do!! We painted some spring time trees last week and we will be painting some flowers this week. On Wednesday we will be talking about how our sidewalks are made since the Cal-Portland (formally Glacier NW) Truck will be here.

Word Wall

Gg will be the letter again this week. I encourage parents to use the letter of the week to get the children interested in beginning sounds.

Thank you!!
Thank you so much to Rob Bigelow (Logan’s Dad) for the wonderful field trip to the Fire Station. It was fun and informative.
I would also like to thank Ryan Ellis, Teacher Marissa husband for coming to school last Monday and reading to the whole school!! (Ryan is a librarian at the Cascade branch.)

Summer Camp
Summer Camp is now registering and is held the first full three weeks in July. It’s a lot of fun for the children, plus a great way to keep your child connected with school and their friends. The themes this week are Wild about Nature, Let’s Get Messy, and the ever popular Water Week! They will run from 9-11:30. There will be a lot of outside activities, a cooking project each week and collaborative projects. You can sign up in the preschool office.

Cal-Portland Visit

Remember on Wednesday April 29th there will be a Concrete Mixer in the school parking lot for us to view, thanks to Cal-Portland for this opportunity. We will be able to walk around it and check it all out.

This Week in the Sunshine Class

We are talking about our earth and how amazing it is and how we can protect it by recycling, reducing and reusing. We will be planting this week and exploring how plants grow. We will also be working on some special projects to be seen at a later date!
